What are dental insurance plans?

Dental insurance plans help you, as a patient, cover the cost of your dental services. Insurance plans might be confusing, that’s why our friendly staff will help you better understand the complexity of it from day 1, so you don’t have to worry about any unexpected bills.

What is dental insurance annual maximum?

A dental insurance annual maximum is the total amount of money your insurance will pay within a period of 12 months. In other words, when you need to undergo a dental procedure, your insurance will usually pay a maximum amount of the cost of your dental services and/or treatment in a year of benefit plan. This is called dental insurance annual maximum. Your dental insurance provider will reduce the costs they have paid for the service or treatment from your annual maximum every time you submit a dental claim. Once you reach your dental insurance annual maximum, you will have to personally pay for any further dental treatment or procedure you undergo. That is until the next plan year.

Depending on your dental plan, your dental insurance annual maximum only applies to the portion your insurance plan pays on your behalf. Most of the time, basic dental services (i.e. diagnostic and preventive procedures) do not count in your annual maximum.

Also depending on your insurance plan, your annual maximum includes a certain amount that resets at the end of each benefit period, which is usually a year.

What is the ortho benefit maximum?

Unlike the dental insurance annual maximum, the ortho benefit maximum does not renew. Orthodontic benefits usually have a lifetime maximum. Once the benefits are fully used or reach their maximum, it will not renew and it cannot be used anymore. Ortho benefit maximum is a limit on covered dental services (i.e. number of visits to the orthodontist) or procedures.

What are insurance deductibles?

Before your insurance pays its share, you will be charged “insurance deductibles”, which is mainly an amount you are responsible for paying when it comes to an insured sum of money. Depending on your insurance plan, the deductible amount varies.

What to expect during your first visit?

During your first visit, a Sunnyvale dentist will run a dental examination to assess your oral health and tailor adequate dental procedures.

Right after that, our team of experts will walk you through our dental coverage plans, and discuss your current insurance benefits to customize your dental insurance plans and advise on the best financial options available.

We will be more than happy to submit all insurance forms for you and help you recover most of your benefits. We will do everything we can to help you afford the treatment you need and want.

Company flex plan

At Trident, we also offer company flex plans which allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for your medical expenses. A dedicated team is always available to help you with your dental plan and can assist you on the best financing options.

Fun facts about Dental Insurance :)
  • Unlike medical insurance which often pays a large portion of expenses after deductible or co-payment dental insurance is not meant to be a pay-all; it’s only meant to be an aid
  • No dental insurance existed in the United States until 1954 when California introduced the first plan
  • It has been the experience of many dentists that some insurance companies tell their customers that “fees are above the usual” rather than saying to them that “our benefits are too low”
  • Your dentist does not work for insurance companies, and they are not required to submit claims on your behalf. Dentists, mostly those on the West Coast hire staff to submit claims to insurance on behalf of patients as a value-added service. Most dental practices on the East Coast require that patients pay for services in full at the time of service and get reimbursed by their dental plan after they submit claim forms themselves
  • Many workplace policies come with allowances for braces
